Bio

I compose and produce so the songs reach whoever enjoys them.

My roots are rock and prog, but my music has no single genre: every song is built on exploration and the freedom to experiment.

How I started

I started at 16, in high school, as the drummer of a band of classmates: punk and some thrash metal. Then came Avatares, closer to power metal and progressive metal.

When the others left their instruments at my place, I tried them out: that is how I taught myself some guitar and keyboards. When I moved south I left the drums behind; Sincopé, the band we started there, already had a drummer, so I bought an electric guitar. The piano was always a weakness: as soon as I could I bought one, already thinking of pairing it with virtual instruments to compose seriously and record.

In every band I wrote the music and the lyrics, sometimes together with others.

What I do

I write, play, record and produce my songs: on every one released so far, I played everything myself. They usually start as improvisations on the piano or the guitar. Then I tie them to an idea, an image or a story, which gives me perspective to build the rest. I try not to force anything, but I don’t want to sound too conventional either.

Music isn’t my main job, but it plays a vital role in my life. I go at my own pace: only a few songs come out each year, and I have plenty of ideas and finished compositions waiting their turn to be produced and recorded.

The songs

  • Sexta Luna: a song I wrote around 20 and produced again, where power metal and prog started to mix, with a space adventure in the background.
  • Reveles: a melody born improvising on the piano, orchestrated around an idea of discovery and revelation.
  • Inmersa: a denser mood, about living with depression and anger.
  • Saltando Piedras: funk rock with Latin rhythms, telling the joy of children hopping from stone to stone across rivers.

What shaped me

  • Queen, Live at Wembley '86
  • Nirvana, Nevermind
  • Metallica, Metallica (the Black Album)
  • Iron Maiden, Piece of Mind and The Number of the Beast
  • Stratovarius, Infinite
  • Dream Theater, Images and Words

There are many more, from other styles: blues, jazz, classical music and funk, and over the years folklore and some Latin music. I like fusions that bring new ideas, as long as they work.

Mixing and mastering

I mix and master my own songs. For others, for now, I only master: a friend who plays in Orquesta Ahlam liked how one of my songs sounded; they asked me to master a track and, later, their album Quat Al Ruwh.

I try to get the best sound out of each song without losing the nuances of the style or the intent of the artist and the producer.

It isn’t my profession, but if you have a project, write to me and we’ll talk.
